Subject: CRD: Don’t You Need (Melissa Etheridge)

I posted this to a.g.t late last year, but it didn’t get archived at
nevada with the rest of the ME tabs I posted at that point. I hadn’t
saved the file, but luckily an (ahem) extremely organized friend (hi,
Chet!) did save it, and sent it to me.. so I’m reposting it now.

As with all my posts, it probably could be formatted better, etc, etc,
and, no, I give no real idea of timing. But I figure if you’re gonna
play this one, you’ve at least heard it once.. it’s not that
difficult.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don’t You Need

I had a dream [C(9)]late last night

The water was running low[C(9)]

and my fields were on fire

[C(9)]burning my sky.

My body was moving slow[C(9)]

and when I awoke I tasted the sweat

of desire on my mouth. And I

realized my hear[C(9)]t had abducted my mind

and they were last seen headed[C(9)] south.

Now I can’t sleep, I’m so wired,

and I find myself screaming out
Baug Em7 D
Don’t you need? Don’t you want?

Can’t you [C(9)]taste it when you’re alone?

Don’t you cry? Don’t you feel?

Sometimes I [C(9)]wonder if you are real.

Don’t you bleed? Don’t you need?
(instrumental 3 full bars, lyrics on 4th)
[C(9)] [C(9)]

There’s no quenching of thirst

[C(9)]there’s no relief for the hungry at hear[C(9)]t

And as far as you’re concerned[C(9)] I’m just a thief

entertaining in the dark.[C(9)]

But it’s you that holds the cards

Now that the joker is wild.
Baug Em7 D
Don’t you need? Don’t you want

Can’t you [C(9)]taste it when you’re alone?

Don’t you cry? Don’t you feel?

Sometimes I [C(9)]wonder if you are real.

Don’t you bleed? Don’t you need?[C(9)]

Don’t you want to lay it down

[C(9)]and feel your skin against the ground?

Don’t you want to ride the [C(9)]storm

and then sleep inside the calm?

Don’t you want to get that high?

[C/E]Don’t you wanna be satis[D/F#]fied?

Well, if you don’t get that from me–

Don’t you need?
(instrumental 3 full bars)

I had a dream [C(9)]late last night

The water was running low[C(9)]

and my fields were on fire,

[C(9)]burning my sky. How was I to kno[C(9)]w

that I burn every night in my dreams

and only morning can set me free….
(alternate bars of Em7 and C(9) to fade)

Hello hello this is Romeo callin’ from a jackpot telephone

Shame, shame but I love your name

and the way you make the buffalo roam.

Oh, fl[D(2)]y, fly, I guess [A(2)]this is goodbye.

Oh, you packed up your heart and you left no souvenirs.

[A(2)]But if you want me you can call me [D(2)]in the night you know where I’ll be

[A(2)]brave brave soldier keep it undercover[D(2)] you fell alone like no other lover

Burn the pictures break the records run far away to a northern town

Sell your fear and leave me standing here

with no souvenirs.

Once twice I thought it might be nice
To come into your kitchen and play
Cool cool just a crazy fool
I never saw it any other way
Oh wait wait I guess it’s just too late
Oh you made up your mind
Love shouldn’t be so hard

But if you want me you can call me
In the night you know where I’ll be
Broken lover you can touch me
In the dark the innocent can’t see
You lock it uo now hide the key
It would mean surrender to let me see
Oh brave brave soldier keep it undercover
You fell alone like no other lover
Burn the pictures break the records ru
Run far away to a northern town
Sell your fear and leave me standing here
With no souvenirs

No shirt no shoes no jacket no blues your car’s for sale

you forward your mail you’re growin’ your hair

You don’t wanna know where I’m callin’ you from

or how come.

But if you want me you can call me

Silent Legacy by Melissa Etheridge Ukulele Chords

Melissa Etheridge

SILENT LEGACY (from the album “Yes I Am”)

-------------

INTRO: E Em

Why did you steal the matches from the one room motel

Once they gave you answers, now they give you hell

They will never understand, they wonder where did they go wrong

How could you be so selfish, why can’t you get along

And as you pray in your darkness for wings to set you free

You are bound to your silent legacy

You’ve seen it in the movies and you’ve heard it on the street
Craving the affection your blood is full of heat
They don’t listen to your reasons as original as sin
Deny all that you feel and they will bring you home again

And as you pray in your darkness for wings to set you free
You are bound to your silent legacy

Your body is alive but no one told you what you’d feel
The empty aching hours trying to conceal
The natural progression is the coming of your age
But they cover it with shame and turn it into rage

And as you pray in your darkness for wings to set you free
You are bound to your silent legacy

You are digging for the answers until your fingers bleed
To satisfy the hunger, to satiate the need
They feed you on the guilt to keep you humble keep you low
Some man and myth they made up a thousand years ago

And as you pray in your darkness for wings to set you free
You are bound to your silent legacy

Mothers tell your children be quick you must be strong
Life is full of wonder, love is never wrong
Remember how they taught you, how much of it was fear
Refuse to hand it down, the legacy stops here

Oh my child…

A DISASTER
MELISSA ETHERIDGE

The anger in your hair

Call it a disaster

Stronger Than Me by Melissa Etheridge Ukulele Chords

[INTRO Stronger Than Me]

[Verse 1]
So you closed your eyes in the morning
You said you want to start smoking again
You said you had that dream last night
Of the stranger in your room
You said you want to start making new friends
Well I’d found some peace
And you want release
You must be stronger than me

[Refrain]
I don’t know how you can take it
Invest your heart and then you break it
I don’t know how [G/F#]you can set it free
You must be stronger than me
Set it up but it’s not perfect
Tear it down ’cause it’s not worth it
If someone else can light your mystery
They must be stronger than me

[Verse 2]
So I closed my eyes at midnight
Cinderella must go home
But the map was burned
And I’ve taken a wrong turn
And I found myself alone
I’m tired of this war
I don’t want to fight no more
You must be stronger than me

[Refrain]
I don’t know how you can take it
Invest your heart and then you break it
I don’t know how [G/F#]you can set it free
You must be stronger than me
Set it up but it’s not perfect
Tear it down ’cause it’s not worth it
If someone else can light your mystery
They must be stronger than me

[Verse 3]
So it’s too late then
You could have told me when
Living died and passion lied
Now you’re a refugee
Well if it’s what you need
Run away from the truth you see
You must be stronger than me

[Refrain]
I don’t know how you can take it
Invest your heart and then you break it
I don’t know how [G/F#]you can set it free
You must be stronger than me
Set it up but it’s not perfect
Tear it down ’cause it’s not worth it
If someone else can light your mystery

They must be stronger –
If someone else can light your mystery
They must be stronger than me
They must be stronger than me

The Different by Melissa Etheridge Ukulele Chords

Intro: Em Em7 Em (2x)

You’ve never been to the moon but don’t you wanna go
Under the sea in the volcano
You’ve never looked into my eyes but don’t you wanna know
What the dark and the wild and the different know

Come and dance with me now
We’ll dance without a care
I’m as free as a fire
And change is in the air
There’s some things in my life
That I’ll never understand
But they become the force
That makes me who I am

You’ve never been to the moon but don’t you wanna go
Under the sea in the volcano
You’ve never looked into my eyes but don’t you wanna know
What the dark and the wild and the different know

Don’t you worry ’bout the kids
The kids are all right
Mama’s rolling in the backyard
Filled with love and light
Because you live and you learn
And you learn to hold on
And time will make it heal
And time will make it gone

You’ve never been to the moon but don’t you wanna go
Under the sea in the volcano
You’ve never looked into my eyes but don’t you wanna know
What the dark and the wild and the different know

Come with me now
Come with me now
It’s time to try
It’s time to fly

Under the sea in the volcano

You’ve never looked into my eyes but don’t you wanna know
What the dark and the wild and the different know

You’ve never been to the moon but don’t you wanna go
Under the sea in the volcano
You’ve never looked into my eyes but don’t you wanna know
What the dark and the wild and the different know

I resent your voice
I resent that I
Don’t have a choice

Anywhere I go
You are always there
Outside the car
Or in my hair

I think I’ve been here before
Yes I’ve been here before
The last time you locked
All the doors

And I resent you calling
I resent your voice
I resent that I
Don’t have a choice

And yes I am wary
Yes I am, I…

I think I’ve told you once
I think I needed advice
You were such a help
That’s very nice

I think I’ve been here before
Yes I’ve been here before
But this time I kick
Down your door

And yes I am wary
Yes I am wary

Hello hello this is Romeo callin’ from a jackpot telephone

Shame, shame but I love your name

and the way you make the buffalo roam.

Oh, fl[D(2)]y, fly, I guess [A(2)]this is goodbye.

Oh, you packed up your heart and you left no souvenirs.

[A(2)]But if you want me you can call me [D(2)]in the night you know where I’ll be

[A(2)]Broken lover you can touch me [D(2)]in the dark the innocent can’t see

[A(2)]Lock it up now hide the key [D(2)]it would mean surrender to let me see, oh

[A(2)]brave brave soldier keep it undercover[D(2)] you fell alone like no other lover

Burn the pictures break the records run far away to a northern town

Sell your fear and leave me standing here

with no souvenirs.

Once twice I thought it might be nice
To come into your kitchen and play
Cool cool just a crazy fool
I never saw it any other way
Oh wait wait I guess it’s just too late
Oh you made up your mind
Love shouldn’t be so hard

But if you want me you can call me
In the night you know where I’ll be
Broken lover you can touch me
In the dark the innocent can’t see
You lock it uo now hide the key
It would mean surrender to let me see
Oh brave brave soldier keep it undercover
You fell alone like no other lover
Burn the pictures break the records ru
Run far away to a northern town
Sell your fear and leave me standing here
With no souvenirs

No shirt no shoes no jacket no blues your car’s for sale

you forward your mail you’re growin’ your hair

You don’t wanna know where I’m callin’ you from

or how come.

But if you want me you can call me
In the night you know where I’ll be
Broken lover you can touch me
In the dark the innocent can’t see
Lock it up now hide the key
It would mean surrender to let me see
Oh brave brave soldier keep it undercover
You fell alone like no other lover
Burn the pictures break the records
Run far away to a northern town
Sell your fear and leave me standing here
with no souvenirs.

chrome plated heart. . .

[repeat last riff to fade]

don’t play the G string yet, but keep your hand in an Emajor shape
throughout the riff. Also its best to use your 2nd,3rd & 4th fingers for
the E, coz you’ll need your index finger for a barre in a minute.

$- is pop/slap bass- pick this by hooking the string away from the
scratchplate with your thumb(nail).

h is a hammer on
p is a pull off
. is cut the note short

intro:

Em|C|G|D| Em|C|G|D|

The rope that’s wrapped around me
Is cutting through my skin
And the doubts that have surrounded me
Are finding their way in
I keep it close to me
Like a holy man prays
In my desperate hour
It’s better that way
So I’ll come by and see you again
I??ll be such a very good friend
Have mercy on my soul
I will never let you know
Where my mind has been

Angels never came down
Em|C|G D
There’s no one here they want to hang around
But if they knew
If they knew you at all
Then one by one the angels
Angels would fall

I’ve crept into your temple
I have slept upon your pew
I’ve dreamed of the divinity
Inside and out of you
I want it more than truth
I can taste it on my breath
I would give my life just for a little death

So I’ll come by and see you again
I’ll be just a very good friend
I will not look upon your face
I will not touch upon your grace
Your ecclesiastic skin

I’ll come by and see you again
I’ll have to be a very good friend
If I whisper they will know
I’ll just turn around and go
You will never know my sin
